A Twist in Time Empty
PostSubject: A Twist in Time   A Twist in Time EmptyApril 13th 2011, 6:04 am

Prologue
In a dark laboratory, a single figure worked on a gadget she had designed. It looked like a fancy fountain-pen, made of a shiny, silver metal. However, this device was not what it seemed. The scientist worked on her gadget until dawn. She then pushed her blue hair behind her ears and locked the gadget in a safe.

Chapter 1
Jessie was lying on the sofa in Chief's office, reading a book. Her beloved pooch, Fenn, walked in and rested his head on her stomach. "Hey boy!" She said stroking his head. "How are you?" Fenn sighed. "Bored huh?" Jessie said, sympathetically. Jessie had been stuck in HQ for 3 weeks. On her last adventure, the criminal had stabbed a knife into her leg and fractured it. Chief walked into the room, carrying some files. "Hey!" He said when he spotted her. "How's the invalid?" He asked, placing the files on his desk and kneeling at her side. Jessie blew a piece of hair out of her face. "Bored." She replied, monotonously. Chief laughed. "You'll be up on your feet soon enough!" Chief said, placing the files into the correct places in his cabinet. Jessie stretched and reached for her crutches. "Do you think the good doctor will allow me to keep these things?" She said, tapping them together. "They are kinda fun!" Chief shrugged. "Perhaps." He replied. "Oh by the way, we have a new recruit!" Chief added, opening the door for Jessie. Jessie raised her eyebrows. "Oh really?" She said. Chief nodded. "He's a trainee scientist. Cade's taking care of him. Jessie nodded. "Sounds good!" Chief played with a pen which he held. "He wants to meet you!" He said. Jessie raised an eyebrow. "Er... ok... Where is he?" She asked. Chief picked her up and carried her down some steps. "He's in the lab. But it would take forever for you to walk there." He said. Jessie laughed. "Lead the way!"

Chapter 2
Jessie used her crutches to walk the last few meters. She laughed as Chief opened the door to the lab, bowing like a butler. "Thank you!" She smiled. Jessie saw the new recruit and she dropped her crutches and hopped as fast as she could over to him. "JAMES!" She shouted, excited. She hugged him and he laughed. "Hello Jessie!" He smiled. "Wow! You've certainly grown up since we last saw each other!" He said, helping her keep her balance. Chief walked over, grinning. Jessie couldn't believe it. It was James! Her only friend in her class at school. The class of four; herself, James, Archie and Baby. He had always told her to believe in herself. And here she was! In an agency! With her old friend! "I haven't spoken to you since..." She stopped off. "Since you left that day, to meet the Daishas. I assumed you had left town, but then I heard so much about you! I just had to apply for a job here!" Jessie smiled at her friend. James was about 5'9, he had black hair, which was spiked and short, as well as a dark tan. His eyes were dark also, almost black. Chief watched as the young science loving kid and Jessie caught up. Chief then interupted. "Now if you'll excuse me. Cade? What was it you wanted to show us?" Chief asked. Cade stepped forward with a console, and two pen like devices. "These!" She said, excited. "They have the power... to manipulate the time-space continuum... deconstructing the molecular system and reconstructing it in another point in eternity, an almost instantaneous process!" She said, quickly. Chief and Jessie blinked. "Er... Cool?" Jessie said, not quite sure what Cade had just said. Cade rolled her eyes. "It's a time travelling device." She said flatly. "Ooooh!" Jessie and Chief said in unision. "Cool!" Jessie added, more confident now. Cade nodded. "You bet!" She said. She slid one pen into Jessie's pocket. "You simply hold it, and then using this control panel, you input the time you wish to travel to, and off you go!" Cade said. Jessie grinned. "When will we be able to use it?" Chief asked. Cade sighed. "It's not quite safe yet." She explained. "It travels backwards in time ok, but sometimes it overheats going forwards, which means only a short distance can be travelled at a time, you could fly back a thousand years in a few moments, but it could take days to get back, and you would need to stop off at different eras to let it cool." Chief nodded. "Sounds like you have some work to do!" He said. James was tapping in some data at a nearby computer. Chief smiled at Jessie. "So what do you think?" He asked. Jessie placed a hand on his shoulder for balance. "It sounds like an awesome concept!" She said. "But I don't think I want to be stuck in... I don't know... Ancient Egypt!" She laughed. But then, Jessie vanished into thin air. Chief stepped back. "C...Cade...!" He said, nervously. "What just happened?" Cade looked up and gasped. She grapped the control panel. "Oh no!" She said. "What..." Chief asked, panic rising in his voice. Cade looked even paler than ever. "Jessie has been sent back in time... to the Ancient Egyptian era!" Chief's mouth hung open. "WHAT!" He said furiously. "HOW?" He yelled. James looked pale also. "I..." He started. Chief calmed down. "What did you do James?" he asked, in a fatherly tone. "You must tell us, or we can't solve the problem." He added, calmly. "I accidentally knocked the button which activates time travel..." James said, in a small voice. Chief closed his eyes. "Ok... well..." He said, picking up a pen and placing it in his pocket. "I guess I'm going on a mission!" He said. Cade nodded solemly. "Take these!" She said, handing him two small objects. "What are they?" Chief asked. "They are trans-time communicators" She said. "They use energy from the travel to emit communicatory waves through the time-space continuum." She said. Chief nodded. "And in the same time as someone?" He asked. "Useless." Cade replied. Chief nodded. James raised a hand. "Um... why are you going after Jessie?" He asked. Chief put a hand on James's shoulder and looked into his dark eyes with his crystal blue ones. "Because she will need someone to protect her." He said. James nodded. "Ok!" He said quietly. Chief saluted James and Cade. "I'm ready!" He declared, after a moment. "Let's fly!"

Chapter 3
Jessie opened her eyes after the tornado of wind had swirled around her, making her so scared she shut them. An Egyptian like chariot was hurtling towards her. The rider shouted something in Egyptian at her and Jessie scrambled to her feet and dived out of the way. She stood, coughing as the dust choked her. She looked down in sudden realisation. Her cast was gone! She dropped to a crouching position and felt for pain. There was none. "What happened?" She wondered. However, since she was dressed in 21st Century clothes in who knows when BC, she decided not to dwell on it and went in search of some clothes which wouldn't freak out the locals. Once she had managed to find someone who she could communicate with using signs and gestures, and had managed to get a long, egyptian dress and a bag made from linen, she placed her modern clothes in the bag, and dressed herself in the Ancient Dress. She wore some sandals on her feet also. Jessie had no idea what she should do, or how she'd get back. But she decided to calm down and take in the sights. She walked through a market where there were plenty of fruits and vegetables, as well as animals for sale. She couldn't understand the language of these ancient folk, but she enjoyed listening to them call out to passers by. She placed a hand on her silver pen which she had hung on a piece of string made from some animal fibres. "I hope the others are working to get me home!" She said. Suddenly, there was a kerfuffle. She was pushed aside and the whole crowd devided. The crowd around her were murmering something. "Ramses!" They seemed to be saying. Jessie thought back to her history lessons. "There were loads of Ramses's!" She thought aloud. She felt the crowd crushing her. Suddenly, a hand grabbed hers and pulled her out of the crowd. She looked up at the young man who had helped her. "Iwy em hotep!" He said, smiling. Jessie blinked. "Er..." She wished she could remember what hello or thank-you was in Ancient Egyptian. "Iwy em hotep?" She said, quietly. The man smiled. He wore one of those tunic thingys around his waist and on his head, the face of which was tanned and made-up Egyptian style, he wore a black wig. Jessie suddenly remembered what she had learned when she did her project on Ancient Egypt when she was about 9. "Dua Netjer en ek!" She added. 'Thank you!' She thought. The man nodded said something Jessie didn't recognise. Then he said "Senebti" and left her. Jessie rolled her eyes and made a mental note to compile a book on vital phrases in many languages when she got home, just for times such as this... if she ever did get home.

Chapter 4
Jessie continued to walk through the market place. She stopped to smell some fruit that a man was offering her. "Dua Netjer en ek!" She said. Then shaking her hand she indicated that she didn't want to buy some. She continued to explore. Suddenly, a large, round man in a tunic grabbed her arm and shouted at her in Egyptian. Jessie pulled and struggled in fear. Then a girl with similar hair to Jessie walked past. The Egyptian pulled Jessie over to the girl and stood her next to her. Jessie gulped. The man looked at Jessie, then at the Egyptian girl. He decided to take the other girl, but he shoved Jessie backwards into someone. He spat at her feet and walked off, dragging the poor slavegirl with him. Jessie turned to see who she had smashed into. "You'd better be more careful." The familiar face said, smiling. Jessie gasped and stepped away. "Chief?" She whispered. Chief nodded. Jessie ran forward and jumped on him in a hug. Tears streamed down her face. "I was so scared I would be stuck here!" She said. Chief took her hand and squeezed it. "That's why I came!" He said. "One... to make sure you're alright, and to keep you out of trouble." He led her out of the market. "And two... to tell you that Cade is working for us to get home!" He added. Jessie looked up at him. "REALLY!?" She squealed. Chief nodded. "We aren't gonna just give up on you!" He said, with a wink. Jessie smiled. "Thank you!" She said, hugging him again. Chief was also in traditional dress, he wore a tunicy thing around his waist, which showed off his abs. He didn't wear the make-up... thankfully, because if he did, Jessie may not have recognised him. Chief led her to a quiet place, by one of the great monuments to Ramses and pulled out a small, cell-phone like thing. "It won't work! There are no masts!" Jessie said. Chief turned it on and pressed one button. "It's a time-travel cell!" He said. Jessie frowned. Chief held the phone to his ear. "Cade! Thank goodness you picked up!" He said. Jessie stood open mouthed. "Cade?!" She whispered. "Yes I found her!" Chief said. "Is the device cool enough to take us forward?" Chief asked. He listened. "OK!" He replied. "See you!" He placed the phone in a pocket he had fashioned from the tunic. "Cade is ready to bring us forward. You got your pen?" He asked. Jessie nodded. Chief took her hand and the winds of time began to sweep away Ancient Egypt, forming a new landscape.

Chapter 5
Jessie looked around at the pillars and statues. "This must be..." She started. "Ancient Greece!" Chief said, completing the sentence. Chief nodded. He took Jessie's linen bag from her, which he had placed his modern clothes in also, and slung it over his shoulder. "We might have to ditch the Egyptian clothes for something... Greek." Chief said. Jessie smiled. "Sounds good!" She said. Chief removed the wig and placed it in the bag. "That was itchy!" He said, fluffing his hair back up. Chief and Jessie headed for a small town which had a market in. They managed to exchange the gold on the wig for some coins and they started shopping. "Oh if only we had Beth with us!" Jessie said. "She was learning Greek!" She added. Chief raised an eyebrow. "Maybe, but if this is Ancient Greek, Modern Greek would not be invented yet." Chief said. "We will just have to wing it." Jessie looked around and the array of Greek shops. "This place is amazing!" She murmered. Chief nodded. "Look, there's a stall selling robes!" Chief said, pulling Jessie over. Chief mimed to the shop keeper for two garments, one for Jessie one for him. The keeper selected two white robes and handed them to them to try. Jessie held hers up against herself. Chief nodded. "Very nice!" He said, holding up his. Jessie giggled. "Very philosophical!" Chief laughed. He turned to the shop man and held out the coins, motioning to the garments. The man refused. He smiled widely. He urged them to leave without paying. Jessie looked at Chief confused. Chief shook the hand of the shop keeper and insisted on paying some money for the garments. The shop keeper reluctantly accepted, and the travellers went to find two separate areas to change. Jessie wore a Greek dress which flowed like a milk fountain, and Chief wore a robe which looked like the one which Zeus is depicted in, a long skirty bit with one side on top. They toured the streets and even went to Mars hill, where the philosophers were. Atop the acropolis, was the parthenon. Jessie looked up at it in awe. "It's amazing!" She said. "I've seen photos of ruins but the real, full thing is just... wow!" Chief laughed. "Come on, let's go find somewhere to stay"

Chapter 6
As dawn broke over Athens, sunlight began to flood through the tall pillars of an abandoned open building. Jessie felt the warmth and stirred. Her head lay on something firm, but comfortable. She opened her eyes and took in the view. Marble pillars surrounded her. She realised her cushion was rising and falling. She lay for a moment, until she realised who it was. She jumped up, startled. "Wha--?" She yelled. Chief awoke, looking ready to take on an army of people. "What's wrong?" He asked, looking confused. "And uh... why am I in a dress?" He said. Suddenly, the memories all flooded back. Jessie collapsed onto the floor. "I thought it was just a dream!" She sobbed. Chief stood and walked over to her. "Don't cry Jess!" He said, placing a comforting arm around her. "Remember we are on our way home!" Jessie nodded. "I wonder whether Cade is able to bring us forward any more." Chief thought aloud. He picked up the device and pressed the button. Cade answered immediately. "Hello?" She said. "Chief are you there?" She asked. "Yes we are here!" Chief replied. "We are in Greece. I was calling to see if you can bring us forward any more?" He asked. Jessie scratched the ears of a stray dog which had wandered up to them. "You can? Oh that's great!" Chief said, sounding relieved. Jessie looked up. "Are we going?" She asked excited. Chief nodded. "See you soon Cade!" Chief replied. Jessie scrambled to her feet and jumped on Chief in a hug. "We are going home!" She said, crying. Chief nodded. "Yeah... well... we are going somewhere!" He said. He checked his pen and Jessie checked hers, then they joined hands and the time winds swept around them.

Chapter 7
As the winds subsided, the pair opened their eyes to a city bustling with life. Jessie gasped. "Rome!" She said, her eyes wide. "CHIEF WE ARE IN ROME!" Chief nodded. "I'm going to go and find some money exchange thing..." He said. "Then we can get a disguise for this era." Jessie ran after him. "I'm not letting you leave my sight!" She said. Chief laughed. "Come on, I see a table." He said. The money exchanger spoke latin. Luckily, Chief had studied basic latin back when he was in school, so he could communicate roughly with the man. They exchanged the greek coins for some Roman Denarii. Then they bought some clothes. Chief wore a toga, with sandals and Jessie wore a roman dress which looked like the one the Emperor's wife wore. She too had sandals. Chief watched as a group of gladiators walked past. The crowds cheered. Jessie rolled her eyes. "Gladiators! Blood-thirsty murderers!" She hissed. Chief sighed. "Let's steer clear of the Colloseum." Jessie nodded. Chief led Jessie to an alley and called Cade using the device. "Hello Cade, we have arrived in Rome, could you tell us what date?" He asked. Cade clicked a button. "Your location appears to be in Rome, 65 AD." She replied. Chief nodded. "OK!" He said. "Chief? I can bring you forward a little more if you want?" She said. Chief thought. "We will look around Rome first, then we will call you back." He said. Jessie was looking out at a street. "Chief... who was emperor in 65 AD?" Jessie asked, looking very worried. Chief thought. "I think it was Ner--" He cut off. Jessie went pale. "Nero?" She said, fear gripping her voice. Chief nodded. "The fire was in 64 AD, so..." She broke off. She looked at Chief, tears in her eyes. "I've just seen some prisoners, being taken towards the colloseum. Do you think they were...?" She asked. Chief placed a hand on her shoulder. "Maybe." He said quietly. Jessie gasped. "I don't want to stay here much longer!" She said. Chief nodded. "OK... Well... Let's just walk around for a bit then I will call Cade and we will move on. Jessie nodded, placing her hand in Chief's and drying her eyes. They walked around the city for about half an hour then they went into another alley and moved forwards. "Chief, I can only move you forward a few years!" Cade said. "It would seem that something has gone wrong in the console. Do you want to go?" She asked. Chief nodded. "Yes." The time winds once again enveloped them and took them forwards 14 years. Jessie opened her eyes to see a different world. "Look! We are in a different place!" Jessie said. Chief nodded. A small child, about 5 years old, walked up to Jessie and pulled on her dress. Jessie looked down and picked him up. Chief walked over and said hello in latin. The little boy replied. Jessie smiled. "Aww... He's cute!" She said. Chief looked at her sternly. "I'll have to check you're luggage before we travel. We might have a stow away!" He said, joking. Jessie laughed. "I'm not a kidnapper!" She said. "Ask him what his name is!" She said, changing the subject. Chief did. "Atilius!" He said. Jessie smiled. "Ask him where his mum and dad are." Jessie said. Chief did also. Atilius looked sad. "Inferos" He said. "Defuncti sunt" Chief bit his lip. "He says they are dead." Jessie hugged the child. "Who does he live with?" As if he understood, Atilius slipped out of Jessie's arms and ran in the direction of a house. Chief and Jessie followed. The house was abandoned. "Does he live alone?" Jessie thought aloud. Chief shrugged. "Possibly." He said. Atilius sat down on a mat and motioned for the others to do the same. Jessie laughed. "He's very hospitable!" Chief said. And indeed he was. They played catch in Atilius's 'home' for hours and when night fell, Jessie and Chief stayed with him. He crawled onto Jessie's knee and sucked his thumb. Jessie smiled. Chief stroked Atilius's hair. "Sing him a song!" Jessie said. Chief shook his head. "I can't sing!" He said. Jessie rolled her eyes. "You can!" She argued. Chief sighed. "OK..." He said, reluctantly. He started to string some words together. Jessie rocked Atilius in her arms. He eventually drifted off to sleep. Jessie looked at Chief. Chief looked at Jessie. Moments passed. Eventually, Chief placed a rolled up cloth behind Jessie's head and a sheet of fabric over her and Atilius. Then he pulled a cloth over himself and drifted into a slumber.

Chapter 8
Jessie awoke to find her arms empty. Atilius had disappeared. Chief was sleeping on the floor and Jessie stood up to wake him. Chief rolled onto his back and opened his eyes. "Good morning!" He said with a smile. Jessie smiled also. "Come on! Let's find Atilius!" Jessie said, pulling him up. Chief rubbed his eyes and yawned. "Coming!" He said. Jessie and Chief wandered outside into the sun. They spotted Atilius playing with some friends. Jessie and Chief went in search of some fruit. Later on, Chief and Jessie were sat under a column, relaxing, when the ground began to shake. People started to look up at the sky, gasping. Chief and Jessie looked over. "Oh no!" Chief said, sounding worried. "What?" Jessie asked. Chief grabbed Jessie's hand and pulled her up. They began to run outside of the place they were staying. "Chief, what's going on?" Jessie asked. Chief didn't reply. "We need to get as far away as we can!" He said. Jessie was running out of breath. After running for about 3 minutes, Chief stopped and called Cade. "CADE HAVE YOU FIXED IT?" Chief yelled. "Yes I have! Would you like to move forwards? You may be able to move quite fast!" Chief nodded enthusiastically. "YES! HURRY!" He shouted. If this were a cartoon, a lightbulb would have illuminated over Jessie's head. "This place is... Pompeii... and that is... Mt. Vesuvius." She said. Chief hung up and grabbed Jessie, he pulled her close and hugged her. Both closed their eyes as the ash enveloped them. "Atilius!" Jessie cried. Chief didn't let go of her. "We can't!" He yelled. Jessie felt tears stream down her face. There was a loud explosion and lava began to rush towards them. Jessie could feel the heat aproaching, the lava was about 13 meters away, travelling as lightning speed. And then, the time winds swept them away to safety.

Chapter 9
As the winds subsided once more, a horrible stench surrounded the travellers. It smelled like animal dung and rotting meat. Jessie clasped her hands over her nose and mouth. "What is that revolting smell?" She said, sounding like she was going to be sick. Chief also had his hand over his mouth and nose. "I don't know!" He said. Jessie looked around. "The middle ages!" She said, trying not to breathe in the horrible smell. "Let's get out of here!" She coughed. They trudged through the streets which were 5 inches thick in mud and other stuff, and they were in sandals. The gunk seeped through their toes. Jessie grimaced. "This is the most disgusing place ever! How can people live like this?!" She coughed. Chief shrugged. "I guess they are used to it!" He said, almost slipping in the gunge. "Watch it!" Jessie said. "Your toga will be all stained!" She said, jokingly. Chief let out a small laugh. "Where can we go that doesn't stink?" He asked. Jessie's eyes fell on a road leading out of the town and into the country. "The countryside!" She said, starting to walk faster. "WAIT UP!" Chief said, speeding up. The muddy-footed pair arrived on a road which was less muddy. "We need to find some source of water!" Chief said, not wanting to take off his sandals until he had water to wash with. "Chief... the only clean water will be in the mountains!" Jessie said. Chief sighed. "I knew I should have brought some hand sanitizer!" He mumbled. Jessie smiled. "At least it doesn't smell so much out here!" She said. Chief nodded. "It's a lot better!" He agreed. "Look a river!" He said, walking over to it and dunking his feet, sandals and all, in the cool flowing water. "It's f-f-f-freezing!" He said, teeth chattering. Jessie nodded. "We are in England!" She said, pointing to a sign which pointed towards the city called London. Chief shivered. Once his and Jessie's feet were reasonably clean, they went in search of civilization. They came across a small shack with a few animals outside. "That's odd!" Jessie said, peering inside. "These peasants own this land! We must have walked a long way to find somewhere like this!" She said. Chief looked down at his now dusty feet. "My feet are telling me we have walked a long way!" He groaned. Jessie giggled. "Come on! Let's find the family who live here! Maybe they can lend us some of those high shoes they invented! Chief shivered again. "And some clothes!" Jessie shook her head. "Preferably just cloth!" She said. Chief frowned. "Er... why?" He asked. Jessie looked at him. "Because their clothes may have fleas in them!" Chief scratched his head. "Itchy!" He muttered. "Yes... Itchy!" Jessie said. "And carriers of the Bubonic Plague!" Jessie said. Chief's mouth hung open. "The Black Death?" He asked. Jessie nodded. "You don't want that!" She said. Chief shook his head in agreement. "Cloth it is!" He said. Jessie laughed. "We could always wash it in the river!" She said. Chief shook his head. "I'll invent a steam thing which will kill them off!" He said. Jessie laughed. "Sounds good!" A short, round woman walked into the room. "AAAAA!" She screamed, at the sight of two people dressed in white. Jessie and Chief shushed her in harmony. "Angels?" She asked. Chief almost laughed, but Jessie nudged him discreetly. "Please ma'am, may you help us make some clothing?" She asked, sounding almost angelic. Chief nodded. "It would help us greatly!" He said, in a British accent. The woman nodded. "Godfrey!" She called. "Fetch the cloth I wove this mornin'!" She called to her husband. "Yes Gaynor!" He replied. He brought in a roll of material. He saw Jessie and Chief and dropped it onto the floor. "Angels?" He said, in the same startled fashion as his wife. Gaynor picked up the fabric and began making clothes for the 'angels'. While they waited, Godfrey gave them some bread and water from a well in their garden. Chief looked at the water wearily, and Jessie left it, eating the bread with caution. Chief left his bread also. After Gaynor had finished, she presented them with the clothes. "Perfect!" Jessie said, taking hers. They thanked the couple and left them to find a place to stay for the night.

Chapter 10
After they found a place to rest, the travellers ensured that the clothes were flea-free, then pulled them on over the top of their robes, Jessie changed into her greek dress, her favourite. Jessie and Chief settled down to sleep in an abandoned barn. The next morning, they went to a town with a Mythical name. This town was far more hygenic, for a Medieval Town. A tall gentleman in armour on a majestic white horse rode past, the horse reared infront of a small child. Jessie, being a quick thinking, good doing, agent, dashed forwards and pulled the child out of the way of the horse's huge hooves. Chief was looking at a series of bright coloured banners. He turned and saw Jessie rush for the horse. "JESSIE!" He yelled. The small child hugged Jessie and it's mother thanked her. Jessie turned to face the man on the horse. He wore a helmet, which obviously he couldn't see through properly. "What foolish peasant woman durst to cross me?" He said, struggling with his helmet. He pushed the slider thing up and searched the crowd. "That would be me!" Jessie said, walking over to him. The knight looked down on thw woman who had spoken. His mouth dropped. "My... Lancelot... is that an angel thou dost see thither, in the midst of a crowd of commonfolk?" He muttered to himself. Jessie placed her hands on her hips and pulled a face which seemed to say, 'You got a problem with that?'. Lancelot took his helmet off. "My apologies fair lady!" He said, dismounting and snapping his fingers and a tall, thin teenage peasant boy, commanding him to hold his horse in place. Jessie looked up at him still. "Apologies?" Jessie asked. Lancelot raised an eyebrow. "Certainly!" He said. "Thou must be of noble birth at least!" Jessie raised her eyebrow. "Um... ok!" She said. "May I ask thou one question?" Lancelot said. Jessie dropped her hands. "Erm... ok..." Lancelot leaned forward, Jessie leaned backwards slightly. "Why art thou clothed in rags? Among these peasants?" He asked. Jessie bit her lip. "Erm... That's a good question!" She said. "And the answer to that question... is... I am in disguise!" She said, hesitantly. Lancelot stood upright. "I see!" He said. "Art thou... all alone?" He asked. Jessie looked around to find Chief. "Er... no!" She said. "I am with my... er... brother!" She said, finally spotting him fighting his way to the front of the crowd. Jessie walked over and pulled him out. "Is that not correct, dear brother!?" Jessie said, smiling sweetly at him, whilst squeezing his arm so that he did as he was supposed to. "Yes!" Chief managed to squeak. Jessie loosened her grip. Lancelot eyed Chief suspiciously. "Thou art sure he is thy brother?" He said. Jessie gulped. "Yes!" She said, sounding far more confident than she felt. Lancelot seemed satisfied. He walked over to Chief and patted him on the shoulder. Chief was about the same height at Lancelot. He stared him in the eye. Lancelot broke into a charming smile. "Well then!" He said, offering his hand to Jessie. Chief nodded discreetly to her. She took it nervously. Lancelot kissed her hand and led her to the horse. He lifted her onto the back of the horse, side-saddled, and climbed on himself. When he was not looking, Jessie wiped her hand on her clothes and pulled a face at Chief, who laughed to himself. Lancelot rode on, calling to Chief. "Come hither, boy! Follow!" Chief agreed and followed them.

Chapter 11
"We have quite a journey ahead of us!" Lancelot said. Jessie had to hold onto Lancelot to stop herself from falling off. But she did turn and mouth things to Chief. 'This guy is crazy!' was one of the things. Chief shrugged. Jessie sighed. "I do believe we haven't introduced ourselves!" Lancelot said. "I am Lancelot!" He added, looking over his shoulder at Jessie. "I'm Jess... er... elle!" Jessie said, making a name up. "Jesserelle?" Lancelot said. "I like it! And you, boy?" He called to Chief. Jessie interupted. "That's Chiefylot!" She said. Chief mouthed 'Chiefylot?!?' Jessie nodded and giggled quietly. Chief rolled his eyes. Lancelot nodded. "Very good!" Chief noticed a banner. "Er... Lancelot?" He asked. Lancelot made a noise to show he was listening. "Art thou entering that jousting contest?" He asked. Lancelot laughed. "Of course Chiefylot!" He said. "Dost I always!" Chief nodded to himself. "And the sword?" He asked. Lancelot laughed again. "Yes! Exceedingly good am I!" He turned and winked at Jessie, who blushed and looked uncomfortable. After a few more minutes, Jessie spoke. "Er... Lancelot... May we stop for a moment? I feel I need to stretch my legs!" She said. "Stretch thy legs? But they are just fine the way they art, they need not be any longer!" Jessie winced. "I mean, I have to walk around. They are getting sore from not doing anything!" She corrected herself. Lancelot nodded. "Fair enough!" He said, stopping the horse. He dismounted and held his arms out to catch her. Jessie refused. "I can dismount a horse myself!" She said, sliding past Lancelot. He looked at Chief, who shrugged. Lancelot went to see to his horse, which was borrowed. "Any chance that we could swap places?" Chief asked. Jessie laughed. "You want to be flirted with by Lancelot?" She asked, jokingly. Chief slapped his head. "Of course not!" He replied. "But my feet are absolutely killing me!" He said, sitting down and rubbing at the soft leather shoes he had aquired. Jessie knelt beside him. "Poor Chiefylot!" She said. Chief looked at her. "What were you thinking anyways?" He asked. "Miss Jesserelle?" He said mockingly. Jessie shrugged. "I thought I'd have fun!" She said. "Besides, me and some of the girls made that nickname up for you ages ag--- in the future!" She said, correcting herself. Chief sat back on his hands and crossed his feet over. "So, Jesserelle..." He began, a twinkle in his eye as if he were up to mischief. "What dost thou think of Sir Lancelot?" Chief asked. Jessie rolled her eyes. "He's so... creepy!" She said. "Anyways, I thought the knights of the round table was just a fairy tale!" She said. Chief nodded. "Perhaps Camelot and Lancelot did exist... but their records were wiped out, and the guy who wrote the story made up the knights bit, and Lancelot was just a normal knight." Jessie shrugged. "Anyways, he's alright, just really creepy!" She said. Chief laughed. "I don't really go for the black hair and green eyes." She added, jokingly. Chief smiled. "So what do you like?" He asked, also joking. Jessie remained silent. "What colour hair did Lancelot have in the story?" She asked after a few minutes. Chief shrugged. "Maybe the writer tweaked it!" He said, laughing. Jessie giggled. Lancelot came over and held out a hand for Jessie to take, however she simply stood up by herself. Chief took the helping hand instead. "Aww thanks mate!" He said, pulling himself up and Lancelot down. Lancelot wobbled and almost fell. He turned red. Jessie pretended she didn't see it, but she giggled silently. She climbed onto the horse. Lancelot looked surprised, and said so. "I am surprised to see that thou can mount a horse without the assistance of someone. Jessie smiled sweetly. "What sort of girls have you courted then? Probably very lady-like, well-mannered and fashionable." She said. Lancelot nodded. "Not a thing like you!" He said. Jessie nodded. "Thank you kindly!" She said, laughing at the immense compliment Lancelot paid her, she would hate to be all posh and snobby.

Chapter 12
Eventually, they arrived at a castle and Lancelot led them inside. Jessie was given a room with a lavish wardrobe. Chief was given a room also, with a suit of armor. "I am going to train thou as my student!" Lancelot said, handing him a sword. Chief looked at his reflection in it. "Thank you Sir." Chief said. Lancelot left to order some servants around. Chief sighed. Jessie came in after she heard Lancelot leave. Chief smiled at her. She wore a beautiful white dress, with long sleeves which were very wide at the end, the neckline was square. Around her waist was a belt. Her hair, which had grown curly from always wearing a braid, was tied up in a curly bun and a braid ran across her head, like a hairband. Chief raised his eyebrows. "I guess they like you in white!" He said. Jessie laughed. "Angelic?" She said. Chief nodded. "You look..." Jessie looked at the floor. Lancelot came into the room. "Jesserella?" He said. "What doest thou in the room of thy brother?" He asked. "And may I say thou looketh divine!" Jessie blushed. "Er... Lancelot, my brother and I, we are used to each other's company!" She said. Chief nodded. "My sister and I were just talking." He said. Lancelot nodded. "That is fair." He said, then he turned and left. Jessie rolled her eyes and sighed. "I really don't like him!" She whispered. Chief smiled wistfully. Jessie sat on the bed next to him and rested her head on his shoulder. He placed an arm around her and spoke. "Don't worry! Cade will be able to bring us home soon!" He said. "Speaking of which, let's call her!" He said, taking the device from the bag. He called and she answered. "Bad news!" She said. "That long trip has caused it to over-heat again, it would be another few days before you can move on!" She added. Jessie sighed. "Great! More time with Romancelot!" She said, leaning back onto the bed. Chief sighed. "I'll explain when we get back!" He said. Jessie had tears in her eyes. "Chief... I don't want to stay here!" She said. "I don't want to be waited on and looked after by Lancelot's servants. I want to have adventures! I want to solve mysteries." She sat up. "I want to ride Shadow! I want to stroke Fenn! I want to hug Stripes!" She said sadly. "I miss everyone so much!" She said, tears starting to stream. "I do too." Chief said, placing a hand on hers. "I miss them too!" He wiped her tears. Then he laughed. "Even Sinclair!"

Chapter 13
Some time passed, and Chief was training under Lancelot's supervision. Jessie spent most of her time in her room, as far away from Lancelot as possible. She managed to find a hidden door between her room and Chief's, which Lancelot seemed to not know about. She would creep into Chief's room after candles out, and they would tell of what happened during the day. Eventually, the time came when the Tournament was held. Lancelot was entering, as was Chief. However, one night, Lancelot was talking with Chief in Chief's room. "Chiefylot! How art thou my young student?" He asked. Chief shrugged. "Listen Lancelot. It's been great here! I've learned alot, but Jesserelle and I, we want to return to our home!" He said. Lancelot shook his head. "Dost thou not see?" He said. "Thou art my prisoners!" He said with a sly grin. "Thou wilt never leave... EVER!" He said, standing to leave. Chief picked up his sword and swung it at Lancelot who drew his and blocked. Chief stared coldly into Lancelot's eyes. "I have a proposal to make!" Chief said. Lancelot growled. "What be that?" He said, between gritted teeth. Chief pulled away. "This tornament we art entering." He said, replacing his sword in it's sheath. "If I win thou, in battle, thou must release me and my sister." He said. "But if thou loseth... thou wilt stay here, forever!" Lancelot said. "Thou in the dungeons, and your sister, with me!" He cackled. "I shalt accept thy offer!" He said. Chief stared. Lancelot left. Jessie burst in through the door. "CHIEF ARE YOU CRAZY?!" She yelled. Chief shook his head. "Lancelot may be good, but he doesn't know that as I was training, when he wasn't looking, I practiced hard, when he was, I pretended to be simply... amature!" Jessie smiled. "Chief you are genius!" She said. Chief smiled. He wore shiny armour and under that was a blue and gold tunic. Jessie wore a gown like the white one, except this one was deep red, with gold stitching. The tournament was tomorrow. "You'd better get some rest!" Jessie said, eventually. Chief nodded. "You too! I'll need someone cheering me on!" He said. Jessie smiled "Night!" She said, leaving through the door. "Night!"

Chapter 14
The next day, the whole town gathered in the arena. Lancelot wore black, shiny armour, with a dark red tunic. Jessie deliberately wore a blue gown with gold stitching, to match Chiefylot's tunic. Lancelot noticed this and scowled. First the jousting took place. Chief rode a dapple-grey stallion, whilst Lancelot rode a black stallion with silver hairs flecking it's coat. The first round was a success to Chiefylot. He broke 3 lances. The second was a success for Lancelot, who broke one lance. The final round was the decider. Chief lined up to face Lancelot. He looked up at the crowd and saw Jessie, her eyes were shut and her hands clenched. Chief began to gallop his horse. As if in slow motion, the lance made contact. It shattered into thousands of pieces. The crowd exploded in excitement. "One to Sir Chiefylot!" said an announcer. They lined up again. This time, Lancelot broke a lance. Chief called for a break. Jessie immediately left the stands and ran to speak to him. "What's wrong?" She asked. Chief looked at Lancelot. "I don't know if I can beat him!" Chief said. Jessie rolled her eyes. "You're doing great!" She said. "Just don't fall off!" She added. Chief nodded, then had a revelation. "I have to knock him off his horse!" Chief said. Jessie looked at him sideways on. "Are you feeling ok?" She said, feeling his fore-head for a fever. Chief waved her hand away. "It's the only way!" He said. Jessie sighed. "This could go horribly wrong!" She said. Chief didn't listen. He mounted his horse and got into position. Jessie ran back to the stands to watch. Again, the world seemed to be in slow motion. The crowds seemed to fall silent to Chiefylot. The only thing moving, was him, his horse... and Lancelot. He aimed his lance at his enemy, for that was what Lancelot had become. With each stride, the moment became more tense. Finally, the lance made contact, shattered, and Lancelot... hit the floor. "AND CHIEFYLOT WINS THE JOUSTING CONTEST!" Screamed the announcer. Jessie screamed also. Chief looked down upon Lancelot, who lay on his back, scowling up at Chief. "Thou may have won the battle, but thou hast yet to win the war!" He said. Chief offered a hand to him, but Lancelot spat at it. Jessie ran over to Chief and hugged him. "Jesserelle?" Lancelot said. "Come hither!" He ordered. Jessie did, reluctantly. "Thou must keep away from thy brother in the next contest. Dost thou understandeth?" He said. Jessie nodded. "Yes Sir!" She mumbled. She looked at Chief wistfully and went to sit by the arena for sword fighting. Now, if you have read the other stories, you may have gathered that Chief is pretty handy with a sword... But does Lancelot know that?

Chapter 15
Well... I'll spare the details, Chief also won the sword fighting, quite spectacularly. He raised his arms in triumph. But Lancelot was not letting them escape that easily. "SILENCE!" He yelled, sweat dripping from his head. Chief turned and faced him. Jessie pushed to the front of the crowd. Lancelot walked over to her and grabbed her by the throat. He held his sword to her neck and scowled at Chief. "Lancelot, I thought we had a deal!" Chief said, stepping towards them. "Not one more step!" Lancelot said. "Or I shall take her away, forever!" He said. Chief stood still. Jessie looked at Chief, who looked back, helpless. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, then she opened them again and stared directly at Chief. "Goodbye!" She whispered, as a tear rolled down her cheek. Chief shook his head. "No... this cannot happen!" He said to himself, as a tear rolled down his cheek. "Lancelot! Let her go!" Chief said, dropping his sword in the dust. Jessie frowned. Lancelot growled. "NEVER!" He shouted. Chief knelt down. "Take me! Just let her go!" He said. The crowd gasped. Lancelot frowned. "Fair enough!" He said, releasing Jessie's neck. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her over to him. "Stand!" He said. Chief did. Lancelot tied his hands behind his back and pushed him to the horses. Then he took them home. Lancelot threw Chief into a cell and locked Jessie in her room. Jessie tried to kick Lancelot but he was too strong for her. "Thou must think twice before thou triest that!" He said. "Thy brother is still alive... for now!" He said, leaving her. Jessie sighed. "I have to get out of here!" She said. "You may find that difficult!" Came a French voice. Jessie turned and looked at a girl. "Who are you?" Jessie asked. The girl smiled. "I am Amelie!" She said. Jessie stood up and walked over. "Where did you come from?" She asked. "I came through your secret door!" She said, pointing to it. "I heard you were here and came to see you!" She said. Jessie blinked. "Uh... thanks..." Amelie touched Jessie's shoulder. "What is your name?" She asked, kindly. Jessie thought. "My name is Jessie, but Lancelot thinks I am called Jesserelle!" She said. Amelie bowed her head. "It is a pleasure to meet you!" She said. Jessie smiled. "Thanks! It's nice to meet you too!" She said. Amelie was the daughter of a rich frenchman. Lancelot had also kidnapped her and her brother. However, her brother had tried to earn their freedom by challenging Lancelot. Unlike Jessie's 'brother', Amelie's lost, and was thrown into the dungeon. Amelie had not heard from him since. "Is he... dead?" Jessie asked. Amelie shook her head. "I do not know!" She said, tears filling her blue eyes. Her golden hair was in braids which reached to her waist. "But I must say... Escape Lancelot whilst you can!" Jessie sat on the floor. "I don't know how!" She said. "I don't even know where the dungeons are!" She said, defeated. Amelie bit her lip. "I shall take you, tonight! After night fall!" She said. They heard footsteps in the hallway. "I must go now!" She said. "I shall be back tonight, at the eleventh hour! Remember!"

Chapter 16
At eleven o'clock that night, Amelie crept into Jessie's room. Jessie was awake and ready, she wore her red and gold dress and her hair in braids. Amelie led her down a series of corridors to the staircase which led to the dungeons. They slipped quietly into the dungeon and looked around in the dark. The fire lamps on the wall were still burning, but only a dim light was given. Jessie looked in each cell, until she finally came to Chief's. Chief, weak from hunger, for he had not eaten anything for several hours, and the last thing he had eaten was an apple that morning, stumbled over to the bars and reached out to touch Jessie's hand. "Jess!" He croaked, for he was also very thirsty, and the only water given to him had been poisoned. Jessie held his hand and cried. "What has he done?" She said, tears running down her cheeks. Chief shook his head. "How did you find me?" He asked. Jessie pointed to Amelie. "She helped me! Her brother was imprisoned. Lancelot may have killed him!" She said. Chief motioned for Amelie to come over. She did. "Monsieur, your sister is very kind, look after her!" She said. Chief reached out and held Amelie's hand. "Merci!" He said. "What was the name of your brother?" Amelie looked at the floor. "His name was... Auguste!" She said. Chief frowned. "Did he have brown hair? And blue eyes?" He asked. Amelie looked up. "Oui! He did!" She said looking excited. "Is he alive?" She asked. Chief nodded. "He was released an hour after I came, he told me that if I ever heard from an Amelie, that I should tell her to meet him under the oak tree!" Amelie smiled. "Merci Monsieur!" She said, kissing him on the cheek. "Mon frere! Mon frere!" She said. Dropping his hand and kissing Jessie on the cheek also, she waved, and began to run towards the exit door. "Merci Jessie and your brother!" She said. "He's not my brother!" Jessie said back. Amelie giggled. "Well, Good Luck! To Jessie and her Beau!" And with that, she disappeared. Jessie rolled her eyes. Chief laughed. "She seems happy!" He said. Jessie smiled. "So am I!" She reached over and brushed Chief's hair out from his eyes. "Well isn't that sweet!" Came an evil voice. Jessie gasped and spun around. "LANCELOT!" She cried. He walked over to her and grabbed her by the throat again. "I have had enough with thee!" He said. He felt the ben beneath her dress. "What is this?" He said, pulling it out by the string. "Is this how thou managed to escape?" He said. "Is it some sort of key?" Jessie shook with fear. Lancelot growled. "You won't be escaping now!" He said, opening the cell and throwing Jessie inside with Chief, then slamming it shut to stop them from escaping again. "Goodbye!" He said, extinguishing all but one of the fire lamps, leaving them in almost utter darkness.

Chapter 17
Chief ran over to Jessie, who lay on the floor, coughing. "Are you ok?" He asked, lifting her up and hugging her. Jessie nodded. "He just had a really firm grip on my throat!" She said, rubbing her neck. Chief sighed. "I'm sorry I got you into this!" He said. Jessie shook her head. "It wasn't you! It was me! I was the one who put the pen in my pocket!" She said. Chief sighed. Jessie began to cry. "And now Lancelot has it! And I will never get home!" She said. Chief bit his lip. "We will find a way!" He said. Jessie shook her head. "That device only takes one person!" She said. She stopped crying and took a deep breath. "You must leave, without me!" She said. Chief looked at her. "What?" He said. Jessie stood up. "You must leave me here!" She said. "You go home! You've got to!" She said. Chief stood up to try and take her into his arms. She pulled away. "You must go!" She cried, turning away. Chief grabbed her. "I will not leave without you!" He said. Jessie sighed. "If anyone will be leaving, it's you!" Chief said, taking the pen and placing it around Jessie's neck. Jessie shook her head. "I will not leave without you!" She said. "I couldn't live back there! Without you!" She said, hugging him and crying. Chief pulled her arms away from him. "Listen..." he said. "I have a plan!" Jessie stopped crying and listened. "What is it?" Chief explained it. Jessie nodded, unsure. "O..k.." Chief walked over to the lock. "I need a hair pin and some duct tape." He said, looking at the lock. Jessie frowned. "Where are you going to get a hairpin?" She asked. Chief rolled his eyes. "Watch!" He pushed Jessie into the shadows and lay on the floor. "Help me!" He called. "Help!" Jessie watched as a servant girl came along and saw him on the floor. "What happened?" She asked. Chief told her a story about falling over from weakness. She gave him some food and stood up to walk away. Chief jumped up and ran to a barred window. He reached his hand out and skillfully plucked a hairpin from the servant's hair. He held it up to Jessie. "A hairpin!" He said, smiling. "And some food!" He said, eating an apple that the servant had given him. Jessie laughed. They walked back to the door and looked at the lock. "OK, I have a hairpin... now I need some duct tape... you got any?" He said, turning to Jessie. "Yeah sure! Let me just pull some out of my pocket! Oh wait... IT HASN'T BEEN INVENTED YET!" She yelled. Chief just stared at her. There was a thud as something dropped into the cell. Jessie and Chief looked over to see a wolf. The wolf had dropped a roll of what looked like duct tape into the cell. "Hasn't been invented yet, huh?" Chief said to Jessie, as he reached over and picked it up. The wolf looked at them, tail wagging. "Er... Chief... Does he look like Alpha to you?" Jessie asked. Chief was busy picking the lock. "He's probably an ancestor, and he can sense we are friendly because we have wolf on us." He said. Jessie nodded. "OK... Well is he wild?" Suddenly, there was a voice calling. "Tybalt?" It called. The wolf pricked up his ears and went to find the voice. "Tybalt? Where did you put my tree-sap bandages?" He called. Jessie looked at Chief. "Must be his owner?" Chief said, picking the lock. "Where are you off to?" Came the voice again. A man with white hair and a long white beard appeared. "Oh my!" He said, seeing Chief and Jessie escaping. Chief shushed him. "It's alright!" He said. The man nodded. "You mustn't be bad, as my Tybalt seems to like you! He only likes good people!" He said. Jessie smiled and stroked the wolf's soft fur. "What is your name?" Jessie asked the man. "They call me Merlin!" Jessie looked up. "Merlin the wizard?" She asked. Merlin laughed. "Yes! They call me that!" He said. Jessie looked at Chief. "Are you a wizard?" He asked. Merlin shook his head. "I am an inventor!" He said. "I am also good at fixing things!" He added. "That is why they call me a wizard, because I am good at fixing things!" He said. Jessie shrugged. Merlin spotted the 'duct tape' on the floor and picked it up. "There they are!" He said. Jessie looked at him. "Did you make that?" She asked. Merlin nodded. "Tree-sap bandages!" He said. "I added an ingredient to some tree-sap to keep it sticky, then I hardened some linen and pasted it on. My assistant does not think it will catch on!" He said. Jessie and Chief giggled to each other. "Thank you Merlin!" Jessie said. "May you tell us where Lancelot keeps his precious things?" She asked. Merlin nodded. "This way!" He said. He led them up a staircase to Lancelot's room. "What if he wakes up?" Jessie asked. "He wont!" Merlin said. "I placed a sleeping potion in his drink. It helps him sleep!" He said. "He only drinks it right before he gets in bed!" Merlin added. "It's one of my jobs here in the castle!" Jessie nodded. "I will go and get the pen!" She said. Merlin frowned. "A pen?" Jessie ignored him and walked into the room. However, Lancelot was not asleep, he was sat, with his back to Jessie, holding the pen in the air. Chief pulled out the device which allowed them to communicate with Cade. He dialled. "Cade, are you ready to take us away?" He asked. "Yeah!" She said. "I managed to work out the problem. It was..." Chief cut her off. "Well get ready to activate when I tell you to." He said. Merlin stared at the device. Chief felt for the pen which Jessie had returned to him. It was there. He remembered something. "Merlin? Can you sign something for me?" He said. Merlin nodded. Chief picked up a piece of medieval paper and handed it to Merlin, also passing him a pen. "Write this. To Evan, From Merlin the Wizard." Merlin scribbled the note down in his curly writing. "Will this do?" He asked. Chief nodded. "Thanks Merlin!" He said. "Now, in a few moments, Jessie and I will disappear!" He said. Merlin nodded. "OK!" He said. "Please do not tell anyone about this! Do not write about us or speak of us!" He said. Merlin nodded. "I shall not!" He promised. "Thank you my friend!" Chief said, patting his shoulder. Jessie was inches away from Lancelot now. "Cade? You still there?" Chief asked. "Yeah!" She replied. Jessie reached out and snatched the pen from Lancelot's hand. He turned to see her running for the door. "NOW CADE NOW!" Chief yelled. Lancelot jumped up and began to run after Jessie. She, Chief and Merlin all ran down the corridoor. "Goodbye Merlin!" Jessie said, whilst they ran! "And Thank you for your help!" She added. They ducked into an alcove as the time winds started to swirl. Jessie quickly hugged Merlin then she gripped Chief's hand and they vanished. Finally, they had left the Middle Ages.

Chapter 18
As they materialized, Jessie looked around to take in the view. She immediately recognised the fashion of the era they had landed in. Her stomach twisted. "Ch...Ch... Chief!" She said, nervously. Chief turned to her. "What's wrong?" He said. "Hey look! Pilgrims!" Jessie grabbed his arm. "We are in the Stuart era!" She said. Chief frowned. She rolled her eyes. "Witch hunting!" Chief frowned again. "There was a period in English history when there were witchcraft trials... There will be witch hunters around." Chief shrugged. "You aren't a witch... Are you?" He asked, jokingly. Jessie shook her head. "That's not the point!" She said. "Anyone could be falsely accused of being a witch!" She said. "They have all these crazy ideas!" Chief frowned again. "Like what?" He asked. Jessie spotted something in the distance. "Like that!" She said, pointing to a huge set of scales. On one side was a young girl, she was shaking like crazy. On the other side, a man with a pilgrim like hat was pushing two gigantic bibles onto the end. "If she's lighter than the bibles, she's a 'witch' and she'll be..." Chief cut her off. "Those books are huge! You'd need to be an elephant to be heavier than those!" He said. Jessie nodded. "We have to get out of here!" She said. "Excuse me!" She said, asking a passing man. "Yes?" He asked. "What year is it?" Jessie asked. "1620?" He said, sounding confused. Jessie nodded. "Thank you!" She said. Chief pointed. "Look! Boats!" He said. They walked over to get on a ship. Jessie and Chief boarded one. A man asked what they were doing. "We have to escape! Please let us come!" Chief said. The man agreed and off they went. After a few hours, Chief was asking around. "So where are you going?" He asked someone. "The new world!" They said. Chief nodded. "Right... Cool!" He said. Then he remembered. "Jessie..." He said, grabbing her arm. Jessie looked at him. "What?" She asked. Chief whispered. "It's the Mayflower!" Jessie shrugged. "We are going to..." He went quiet. "Where?" Jessie asked. Chief leaned over to her and whispered in her ear "America!" Jessie nodded. "Ok!" She said. "WE ARE PILGRIMS!" Chief whispered excitedly. Jessie nodded. "Cool!" Chief found a small area which he and Jessie crammed into, they called Cade. "Hey Cade!" Chief said. "Could you bring us forwards to the first thanksgiving?" He asked. Cade nodded. "Yeah! Sure! You got Jessie with you?" She asked. "Yup! We are ready!" He said. They set off to the year 1621. Jessie frowned. "Why are we here?" She asked. Chief smiled. "Thanksgiving!" He said. Jessie rolled her eyes. "Always thinking about your stomach!" She said, poking him in the stomach. Chief put on puppy-dog eyes. Jessie folded her arms. "You know I can't stand it when you do that!" She said. Chief nodded. "That's why I do it!" He said, laughing. Jessie punched him in the arm, playfully. "Come on! Let's go eat!" She said. They feasted with the Pilgrims and the Indians. Then Chief and Jessie whizzed forwards through time... to the Pirate era.

Chapter 19
The time had come for Chief and Jessie to leave the new world, which was now a successful colony. They left on a trade ship to England. Half way across the sea, the lookout yelled. "PIRATES!" Jessie and Chief looked at each other in fright. "P-p-p-pirates?" Jessie stuttered. They swung aboard and took Jessie and Chief hostage. They also took some of the loot, sugar! The hostages were taken to the Captain's room. The Captain was a medium height, with a wispy grey beard and a round belly. "First Mate!" He snapped. The pirate who brought them in looked. "Arr?" He said. "Ye can go!" The captain replied. Jessie bit her lip. The Captain waited until he heard footsteps, meaning the first mate had left. "Me apologies mateys!" He said, untying them. Jessie looked confused. "Are you going to make us walk the plank?" She asked. The Captain laughed. "Course I ain't ya wench!" He said, laughing. Jessie frowned. "Then why are you taking us hostage?" Chief asked. The Captain blinked. "Cos that's what we Swashbucklin types do!" He said. Jessie frowned. "Then why are you setting us free?" She asked. The Captain looked sincere. "Cos I ain't a swashbucklin' type!" He said. Chief and Jessie looked at each other. "You've lost me!" They said in unision. The Captain sat them down and explained everything. "Ye see, when I were a young lad, I dream'd of the open sea! When I become 14, I ran away from me mam to be a matey. That were many a moon ago!" He said. "I been sailin these seas for 50 years!" Jessie gasped. "Aye! I use to be a right scurvy swabber!" He said. "Use to commit many a misdeeds." Jessie looked at the old pirate. "But what happened?" She asked. "About 10 year ago, I lost me sense of adventure! Sure I attack a few ships and rob em of their booty, but I only do this for the crew!" He said. Jessie frowned. "Why don't you... you know..."
"Abandon ship? If only I could! I ain't no landlubber!" He said, sadly. "I'd have no work! Who would hire a washed up old pirate like me!" He added. Jessie patted his hand. "Well why don't you tell your crew?" She asked. The Captain shook his head. "If they knew what I were thinkin', they'd maroon me on a desert island, with a bottle o' rum fer survival." Chief shook his head. "So you have no choice?" He said. The Captain nodded. "I loathe this life I lead!" The captain said. "But I have no way of leaving it!" He sighed. Suddenly the first mate burst in. "Cap'n Greybeard, we have a problem!"

Chapter 20
Captain Greybeard, Jessie, Chief and First Mate ran out onto the deck. 4 of the crew were attempting to hold a mutiny. Greybeard whistled and they fell silent. The rest of the crew grabbed the rebels and bound them. "Is he gonna make them walk the plank?" Jessie whispered to Chief. Chief shrugged. Greybeard turned to Firstmate and nodded. "Maroon 'em" He said, with a sad look in his eyes. Greybeard walked back into his room and motioned for Jessie and Chief to follow him. "That's four more of my crew!" He said, sadly. Jessie frowned. "What did they do?" She asked. "They tried to stage a mutiny, to get the crew to rebel against me. We have to maroon 'em" Greybeard leaned over a desk and looked at a piece of paper. "We are dockin' in a port to pick up a painter!" Greybeard said. "He's going to paint a portrait of me!" He said. "Hey! Why don't you join me!" He said. Jessie looked at Chief. "We'll think about it!" He said, dragging Jessie onto the deck. He closed the door and led her to the bow. "Look, we can't have the painting done!" He said. "If we do... we'll mess up the time-space continuum balance." He added. Jessie sighed. "I understand!" She said. "But I've always wanted my picture painted!" She added. Chief looked at his friend. "Fine! But we will have to destroy it, I'll ask Cade to take us back in time to before just after it's made and idk, burn it or something!" He said. Jessie smiled. "Thanks Chief!" She said, hugging him. "You're... Welcome!" He said, patting her shoulder. Jessie ran into Greybeard's room to tell him that they accept... but little did they know that their blunder will not go un-noticed!

Chapter 21
The painter added the final touches to his art. The blonde haired man wore high, leather boots on his feet, baggy trousers and a baggy shirt with a sort of waist-coat thing around it and a belt. The girl, an uncommon sight on a ship full of men, wore a similar outfit. The man in the middle, sat on a chair, wore a tattered old outfit, similar to the younger ones. His wispy beard made him look like Father Christmas, except it was grey. "Ah! It is complete!" The artist said, grandly making a gesture with his hand to show he was pleased with the work. Jessie rushed to see what it looked like. "Wow! It's amazing!" She said, in awe at the detail. She looked at Chief who gave her a warning look. She sighed. This beautiful piece of art was going to be destroyed. It made her sad. Once the paint had dried, greybeard hung it above his chair in his room. He placed his arms around Jessie and Chief. "It's a masterpiece!" He said. Jessie nodded. Once they had left, Chief pulled Jessie to one side. "You know what we have to do!" He said. Jessie nodded. "Let me go and say goodbye to Greybeard!" She said, sighing. She returned and Chief told Cade to bring them forwards. Once they 'landed' they immediately splashed into the sea. "Oh I hope these are waterproof!" Jessie moaned. Chief nodded. "They probably are! Cade tends to do that with all her gadgets, just in case!" A large pirate ship came up alongside them and hauled them in. "Firstmate!" Jessie called. The elderly pirate turned and looked at Jessie. "Is that really you?" He asked. "My! You haven't aged a bit! I haven't seen ye fer 40 years!" He said. "Aren't those the rags ol' greybeard gave ye?" He said, pointing to the soaked clothes. Jessie nodded. "Is greybeard..." She started. "In Davy Jones' Locker." Firstmate replied. "Where's ye matey?" Jessie pointed to Chief, who was swimming about in the cool water. "Hoist im up!" Firstmate called. "How be ye?" He asked, after he had handed blankets to the two castaways to warm them up. "We are much better!" They replied. "Well ye is welcome to stay as long as ye like! Anyplace ye is particularly going?" He asked. Jessie shook her head. "Have you still got the painting?" She asked. Firstmate nodded. "It's in ol greybeard's room, I suppose ye want to see it!" He said. He led them to it. Jessie sighed. "This is such a sad memory!" She said, stroking the worn picture which was so beautifully painted. Firstmate left them to stay in the cabin. Chief took the photo off the wall. "Maybe we could just cast it overboard, then it wont be found, and if it is, then it's pure coinscidence that we look like these two!" He said. Jessie nodded. "It's a shame to burn it!" They spent most of the night in the cabin then when it was dark and stormy, they took the picture from the cabin onto the deck, looked at it in the moonlight one last time, then together, threw it overboard. "Captain Firstmate will assume we were thrown overboard." Jessie said, as they joined hands to go forwards in time. Chief nodded. "I'm afraid so." He said, just before they took off, for Georgian Britain.
